"Day Out with Poppy" is a pencil drawing from
September 1998. It's about my dad and my daughter's relationship. She was the only
grandchild for seven years. If we were in the same city, as long as he
could drive---and she is the only grandchild who can
remember when he could-- they were on the road together playing at the
park, going to the store for forbidden treats or anywhere.
Roles
reversed when she was older, as he could no longer walk or feed himself,
she did that for him until he passed away in 2007. This is the
only piece of my art in my family room. The glass was cracked as it was
transported from an exhibit. I have to choose just the right frame
before having it remounted.
